IMSS Recommends Against Installing IE8 For Now
Until we have completed testing on the recently released Internet Explorer 8, IMSS recommends that you do not install IE8 on your computer if you use Internet Explorer to access any of IMSS web-based applications such as Oracle Administrative Applications, Regis, Techmart, Famis, Kronos, PCard, etc.

Microsoft released their latest browser, Internet Explorer 8, on March 19th. While IE8 offers some advantages over IE7, it is new and relatively untested. As with any new browser, web-based applications need to be tested thoroughly for compatibility before we can assure that IE8 will work well in the Caltech environment. We are currently testing our applications with IE8 and working with our application vendors for guidance on IE8 compatibility and support. Until we have completed this process, IMSS recommends that you do not install IE8 on your computer if you use Internet Explorer to access any of IMSS web-based applications such as Oracle Administrative Applications, Regis, Techmart, Famis, Kronos, PCard, etc. IMSS will publish updated application compatibility guidelines at a later date incorporating our IE8 test results.
Note: because Microsoft has not rated IE8 a "critical update" (it is rated "important"), it should not automatically install on your computer even if you have automatic updates turned on. If you manually update your Windows computer each month, you may be prompted to install IE8 -- please exercise caution during this process. IMSS remotely maintains patches and software updates for nearly 1,000 Windows computers on campus (including all computers in Business & Finance). In keeping with our recommendation, we do not plan on deploying IE8 to these computers until further notice.
